Grove City fares well at California Early Bird
CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team competed in California University of Pennsylvania's Early Bird Invitational Saturday.
Sophomore Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) helped lead Grove City at the unscored meet by posting a pair of top-three finishes. Carter took second in the 1500 in 4 minutes, 49.10 seconds, which surpasses the ECAC Championships qualifying standard of 4:54.94. She also took third in the 800 (2:24.12).
Sophomore Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) placed second in the 5000 (19:32.05) while junior Mary Majchrowicz (Sunnyvale, Calif./The King's Academy) finished third in the 400 (59.72). Majchrowicz's time qualifies her for the ECAC Championships.
Senior Ashley Metcalfe (York Harbor, Maine/Portsmouth Christian, N.H.) cleared 4 feet, 8 inches in the high jump, earning fourth place. Junior Candice Coholich (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) placed fourth in the 5000 (20:10.52) while senior Sarah Bray (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) took sixth in the discus with a throw of 101-9.
Grove City will return to action next Saturday, March 31, at the Wheeling Jesuit Invitational.
