Wolverines compete at Wheeling Jesuit
WHEELING, W. Va. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team took fourth at the 12-team Wheeling Jesuit Bill Van Horne Invitational Saturday. The Wolverines picked up 54 team points. Malone won the team title with 254.5 points.
Junior Mary Majchrowicz (Sunnyvale, Calif./The King's Academy) won the 400 dash in a Grove City-record time of 57.79 seconds. Majchrowicz set the previous record of 59.31 seconds last season.
Senior Sarah Bray (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) took third in the discus with a throw of 33.21 meters (108 feet, 11 inches).
Three Grove City athletes posted fifth-place finishes. Junior Kate Bender (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) took fifth in the 800 (2:29.45) while freshman Sara Wagoner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) placed fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:13.57). Senior Katie Samolovitch (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) took fifth in the javelin with a throw of 28.42m (93-3).
Grove City will host a quadrangular meet at Robert E. Thorn Field April 11.
