Grove City competes in Malone Jack Hazen Open

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's track and field team participated in Malone College's unscored Jack Hazen Open Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) helped lead the Grove City effort by finishing fourth in the 1000-meter run. Pierce posted a time of 3 minutes, 10.41 seconds.

Senior Mary Majchrowicz (Sunnyvale, Calif./King's Academy) placed fifth in the 400 in 1:01.09 while sophomore Sara Wagoner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) took fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:12.71).

Junior Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) took sixth in the 3200 (11:56.95) while freshman Kate Balmer (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) marked at 32 feet, 1/4 inch to earn sixth in the triple jump.

Balmer, Majchrowicz, senior Kate Bender (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) and junior Katie Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) took seventh in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4:18.04. Junior Megan Fellows (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) finished eighth in the discus with a throw of 108-7.

Grove City will host a quadrangular meet Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. at Robert E. Thorn Field.
