Wolverines compete at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team made its final preparations for next weekend's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships by competing in the Westminster College Invitational Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.

Freshman Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) led the Grove City effort by winning the 1500 in 4 minutes, 55.20 seconds. Grove City also earned runner-up honors in the 1600-meter relay as freshman Kate Balmer (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central), senior Brittany Moore (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), senior Kate Bender (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) and senior Mary Majchrowicz (Sunnyvale, Calif./The King's Academy) combined for a second-place time of 4:11.09.

Majchrowicz also took fourth in the 200 (26.78) while Bender placed fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:03.88. Junior Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) finished fourth in the 1500 (4:58.20).

Junior Katie Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) marked at 10.18 meters to earn fourth in the triple jump while junior Megan Fellows (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) took fourth in the discus with a throw of 34.45 meters. Senior Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) placed fifth in the shot put (10.24m) and javelin (27.38m).

Balmer finished fifth in the 200 with a 26.94 clocking while junior Sarah Hirsh (Hanover, Pa./South Western) took fifth in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 13:53.84.

The PAC Championships will be held at Washington & Jefferson's Cameron Stadium next Saturday, April 26.
