Grove City captures 3rd at California

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team earned third place out of seven teams in the Division III portion of the California (Pa.) University Western Pennsylvania Championships Saturday. Grove City earned 124 team points. Washington & Jefferson took first with 200, followed by Juniata (152).

Senior Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) and freshman Emily Pietrucha (Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) both earned individual wins for Grove City Saturday. Carter won the 10,000 in 36 minutes, 36.63 seconds. That time provisionally qualifies Carter for the NCAA Division III Championships.

Pietrucha, meanwhile, won the 800 in 2:24.41. It is her first collegiate victory.

Freshman Morgan Osterhouse (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) took third in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 12:10.69. Sophomore Kate Balmer (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.37 in the finals. Pietrucha added a seventh-place finish in the 1500 with a mark of 5:09.92.

Senior Megan Fellows (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) paced Grove City in the field events by finishing sixth in the discus with a throw of 113 feet, 8 inches.

Grove City will compete in the Marietta College Invitational next Saturday, April 4.
