Wolverines fare well at California

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team opened the 2010 season Saturday afternoon by fashioning several top performances at California University of Pennsylvania's Early Bird Invitational at Adamson Stadium.

Five Grove City performers posted top three performances Saturday, including two individual winners. Freshman Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) won the 5000-meter run in 19 minutes, 8.07 seconds while classmate Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) captured the 10,000 in 40:15.87.

Junior Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) placed second in the 5000 (19:08.23) and took third in the 1500 with a time of 4:56.50. Pierce finished one spot behind Smith in the 1500 as she took runner-up with a time of 4:55.87.

Junior Kate McRoberts (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) earned second in the 3000 (11:02.50). Sophomore Heather Good (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) took third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.47 seconds.

Sophomore Rachel Weeber (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) led Grove City in the field by taking fifth in the discus with a throw of 95 feet, 1 inch.

Grove City will host its annual Mini-Meet Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Robert E. Thorn Field.
