Grove City takes 10th

WHEELING, W. Va. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team earned 10th out of 17 teams at Wheeling Jesuit University's Bill Van Horne Invitational Saturday afternoon. Grove City accumulated 38.7 team points during the meet to rank fifth among the Division III schools in attendance. Malone won the team title with 121.7 points.

Three Grove City athletes recorded runner-up finishes for Grove City. Freshman Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) placed second in the 5000 meters with a time of 18 minutes, 32.50 seconds. That time qualifies Fisher for the ECAC Championships. She also finished the race as the top Division III performer in that event.

Juniors Kate Balmer (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) and Kate McRoberts (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) also recorded second-place finishes in their respective events. Balmer took second overall and first among D-III competitors in the 100 dash with a time of 12.90. McRoberts placed second in the 3000 with a time of 10:53.44. She too finished first among Division III participants and set a new Grove City record in that event.

Freshman Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) earned fourth in the 3000 (11:46.73) while sophomore Christen Vallimont (Lake Hoptacong, N.J./Jefferson Township) took sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:11.53).

Grove City returns to action April 3 at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational in Washington, Pa.
