Grove City opens 2011 season
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team commenced the 2011 season Tuesday afternoon with an unscored home invitational at Robert E. Thorn Field.
Sophomore Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) picked up two victories for Grove City. She won the 1500 in 4 minutes, 56.10 seconds and then recorded a winning time of 18:07.37 in the 5000-meter run.
Junior Christen Vallimont (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson) won the 400 hurdles in 1:14.60. Freshman Shannon Bishop (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) led Grove City's effort in the field events by winning the triple jump. Bishop posted a top mark of 33 feet, 3 1/2 inches.
The Wolverines will compete in Wheeling Jesuit's Bill Van Horne Invitational Saturday.
