Grove City earns 8th at W&J Invitational

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team took eighth place at the 17-team Washington & Jefferson Invitational Saturday at Cameron Stadium. The Wolverines accumulated 46 team points during the meet.

Sophomores Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) and Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) paced Grove City by finishing 1-2 in the 10,000-meter run. Fisher won the race with a victorious time of 38 minutes, 1.71 seconds. Smith earned runner-up in 39:30.39.

Junior Hannah Tubb (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) earned second place in the 800 (2:20.79) while senior Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) finished fourth in the 5,000 (18:52.62). Senior Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) placed fourth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:59.97.

Grove City's 1,600-meter relay team of Tubb, freshman Cayla Clawson (York, Pa./Central York), freshman Grace Postma (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin) and freshman Austin Powell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) took fourth in 4:25.31.

Two Wolverine athletes scored points in the steeplechase Saturday. Freshman Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) placed sixth (12:54.17), one spot ahead of freshman Katrina Holvik (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Port Jefferson). Holvik took seventh place with a time of 13:15.63.

Division II Seton Hill won the team title with 142 points.

Grove City will compete in the Slippery Rock Invitational next Saturday.
