Wolverines compete at The Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team competed in the Slippery Rock University Invitational Saturday on the Bill Lennox Track at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

Two Grove City runners captured individual wins for the Wolverines. Sophomore Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) won the 5,000-meter run in 18 minutes, 3.05 seconds and freshman Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) prevailed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:37.94.

Four Wolverine runners captured runner-up finishes during Saturday's meet. Junior Hannah Tubb (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) finished second in the 800 at 2:19.64 while senior Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) took second in the 1,500 (5:01.66).

Sophomore Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) earned second place in the 5,000 (18:55.99) and freshman Katrina Holvik (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Port Jefferson) completed a 1-2 sweep in the steeplechase by taking second in 13:22.61.

Grove City runners captured the top four spots in the 5,000 as Pierce placed third (19:17.66) and senior Brigitte Fryan (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) earned fourth with a time of 19:31.45.

Sophomore Elizabeth Russell (Shelbina, Mo./South Shelby) finished fourth in the steeplechase (13:32.24).

Two Wolverine field performers also posted fourth-place finishes. Freshman Shannon Bishop (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) marked at 33 feet, 7 inches in the triple jump. She finished as the top Division III entrant in the event. Junior Rachel Weeber (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) captured fourth in the discus with a throw of 105-9.

Grove City will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad at Westminster College's Memorial Field Wednesday at 4 p.m.
