Wolverines open season with home invite
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team opened the 2012 season Tuesday afternoon by hosting a five-team unscored invitational at Robert E. Thorn Field.
Wolverine athletes captured six victories Tuesday. Grove City opened the meet by winning the 3200-meter relay in 10 minutes, 3.64 seconds as sophomore Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock), sophomore Cayla Clawson (York, Pa./Central York), freshman Caroline Kimpel (Columbiana, Ohio/Columbiana) and junior Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) combined for the victory.
Sophomore Austin Powell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) won the 800 in 2:41.13 while junior Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) won the 1500 in a time of 5:08.11
Junior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) captured the 3000-meter run (11:08.31) and sophomore Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) won the 3000 steeplechase in 12:38.94.
Freshman Mara Womer (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) won the 400 hurdles in 1:08.97.
Grove City will compete in Wheeling Jesuit's Bill Van Horne Invitational Saturday.
