Grove City 12th at Wheeling Jesuit

WHEELING, W.Va. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team placed 12th out of 19 teams Saturday afternoon at Wheeling Jesuit University's Bill Van Horne Invitational, held at Wheeling Park High School. Grove City finished the meet with 30 points. Seton Hill won the team title with 128.25 points.

Sophomore Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) helped pace the Wolverine effort by taking second in the 3000 steeplechase in a school-record time of 11 minutes, 52.28 seconds. Skorup finished as the top Division III entrant in the steeplechase.

Sophomore Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) earned fourth in the steeplechase (12:11.97) while junior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) earned fourth in the 5000 with a time of 18:54.44. Freshman Mara Womer (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) placed fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:09.09).

Junior Grace Hanson (Fairland, Ind./Homeschooled) took seventh in the 5000 (19:04.87), one spot ahead of classmate Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent). Dunsworth finished eighth in a time of 19:13.98.

Grove City's two relay teams also scored points Saturday. Womer joined sophomore Lydia Caissy (Dedham, Mass./Dedham), freshman Mariah McGlothlin (Freedom, Pa./Freedom) and freshman Lauren McGarvey (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) on the 400-meter relay team that finished sixth in 53.69 seconds.

Cessar, McGarvey, freshman Caroline Kimpel (Columbiana, Ohio/Columbiana) and sophomore Austin Powell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) closed the meet by taking eighth in the 1600-meter relay (4:21.21).

Grove City will compete in the Washington & Jefferson Invitational next Saturday in Washington, Pa.
