Grove City competes at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team placed fifth out of 13 teams Saturday afternoon in the Westminster College Invitational at Memorial Field. Grove City earned 63 team points during the meet. Host Westminster won with 139.5 team points and Waynesburg took second with 126.

Two Grove City performers earned victories Saturday. Junior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) opened the meet by winning the 10,000 meters in 39 minutes, 1.10 seconds. Junior Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) captured victory in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:34.94.

Freshman Mara Womer (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) placed second in the 400 hurdles (1:09.90) while junior Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) finished third in the 10,000 (39:15.70).

Grove City's 1600 relay team of sophomore Cayla Clawson (York, Pa./Central York), freshman Caroline Kimpel (Columbiana, Ohio/Columbiana), freshman Lauren McGarvey (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) and freshman Emma Rudolf (Birchrunville, Pa./Homeschooled) took fourth with a time of 4:22.57.

Womer, sophomore Lydia Caissy (Dedham, Mass./Dedham), sophomore Shannon Bishop (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and freshman Katie Bailey (Indianola, Iowa/Indianola) earned fifth in the 400 relay (52.55).

Clawson recorded fifth-place finishes in the 800 (2:30.28) and 1500 (5:09.06). Sophomore Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) placed fifth in the steeplechase with a time of 11:52.29.

Grove City will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad Tuesday afternoon in Beaver Falls, Pa.
