Wolverines 2nd at Quad

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team placed second at the Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad Tuesday night at Geneva College. Grove City earned 189 team points during the meet. Westminster edged the Wolverines for the team title by accumulating 191 points. Geneva finished third with 139 points and Thiel had 27 points.

Five Grove City athletes earned wins Tuesday. Sophomore Shannon Bishop (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) paced Grove City in the field events by winning the triple jump. Bishop recorded a best leap of 31 feet, 5 inches.

On the track, sophomore Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) won the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 27.04 seconds. Junior Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) won the 1500 (4:57.09) while junior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) captured the 5000 (18:47.61).

Freshman Mara Womer (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) won the 400 hurdles in 1:07.86.

Grove City will compete in the Indiana (Pa.) Invitational Saturday.
