Grove City fares well at Ed Fry Invitational

INDIANA, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team made its final preparations for next weekend's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships by competing in Indiana (Pa.) University's unscored Ed Fry Invitational Saturday. Several Grove City performers produced notable finishes on the afternoon.

Junior Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) paced Grove City by taking second in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18 minutes, 19.81 seconds while classmate Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) earned third in the 5000 with a time of 18:30.09.

Sophomore Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) placed third in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 12:15.10 seconds. Sophomore Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) captured fourth in the 3000 meters (10:58.95) and added a sixth-place finish in the 800 (2:28.18).

Junior Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) finished fifth in the 1500 with a 5:11.30 clocking. Dunsworth edged sophomore Cayla Clawson (York, Pa./Central York), who took sixth in 5:11.68.

Freshman Mara Womer (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) finished sixth in the 100 hurdles (17.27).

Freshman Ellie Stoffer (Canfield, Ohio/South Range) led Grove City in the field events by finishing fourth in the discus with a best throw of 105 feet, 4 inches. Freshman Mariah McGlothlin (Freedom, Pa./Freedom) took sixth in the long jump with a best leap of 15-7.

Grove City will compete in the conference championships Friday and Saturday in Beaver Falls, Pa.
