Grove City competes at The Rock
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field recorded numerous notable performances Friday evening in the Slippery Rock University Open at Bill Lennox Track inside Thompson-Mihalik Stadium.
Two Grove City performers captured victories in distance events. Junior Cayla Clawson (York, Pa./Central York) won the 1500 in five minutes, 14.04 seconds while senior Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) won the 5000 in 18:30.64.
Freshman Eliza Lowe (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) took second in both hurdle events. She posted a runner-up time of 15.27 seconds in the 100 high hurdles and a 1:07.89 clocking in the 400 hurdles. Meanwhile, junior Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) placed second in the steeplechase with a time of 12:27.21 seconds.
Junior Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) finished third in the steeplechase (12:41.36) while senior Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) took third in the 5000 (18:54.44). Freshman Emily Rabenold (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) placed third in the 1500 with a time of 5:19.87.
Also for Grove City, senior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) earned fourth in the 1500 (5:20.18), senior Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) finished fourth in the 5000 (19:05.41) and sophomore Kara Cremean (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) took fourth in the steeplechase in 12:53.59.
Senior Grace Hanson (Fairland, Ind./Homeschooled) came home fifth in the 5000 (19:11.12). Senior Melissa Knepper (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) led the Wolverine field performers by finishing fifth in the javelin with a best throw of 114 feet, 7 inches.
Grove City will host an invitational at Robert E. Thorn Field Wednesday at 3 p.m.
