Grove City dominates North Quad

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team rolled to the team title at the Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad Thursday night at Geneva College's Merriman Complex. Grove City accumulated 291 team points, nearly matching the combined point total of the other three participating schools. Westminster took second with 147 points, followed by Geneva (92) and Thiel (55).

Grove City athletes recorded 10 total victories. Junior Sadie Malone (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mount Vernon) and freshman Eliza Lowe (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) each secured two individual wins. Malone led Grove City in the field by winning the high and long jumps. She cleared 5 feet, 1/4 inch in the high jump and marked at 15-4 3/4 in the long jump.

Lowe, meanwhile, swept the hurdle events for the Wolverines. She won the 100 high hurdles in 15.65 seconds and then took the 400 hurdles in 1:06.24.

Grove City also won the 1600 relay in 4:18.56 as freshman Allison Blain (Danbury, Conn./Danbury), sophomore Lauren McGarvey (Reynoldsville, Pa./Punxsutawney), sophomore Mara Womer (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and sophomore Adrienne Scrima (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) combined for the victory.

Blain won the 400 in 1:03.08 while freshman Emily Rabenold (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) captured the 800 in 2:32.52. Junior Cayla Clawson (York, Pa./Central York) preaviled in the 1500 (5:05.10) and senior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) won the 5000 in 18:56.06.

Junior Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) captured the 3000-meter steeplechase in a victorious time of 12:31.41.

Grove City will return to action April 26-27 at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships in Washington, Pa.
