Wolverines excel at home
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team opened its 2014 home schedule Saturday by hosting Geneva and Chatham in a tri-meet at Robert E. Thorn Field.
Two Grove City performers produced two wins each. Sophomore Allison Blain (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) won the 200 meters in 27.80 seconds and also claimed the 400 in 1:04.04.
Meanwhile, classmate Eliza Lowe (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) won both the 100 hurdles (15.55) and 400 hurdles (1:05.39).
Blain, Lowe, junior Mara Womer (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and junior Adrienne Scrima (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) closed the meet by winning the 1600 relay in 4:19.11.
Blain, senior Shannon Bishop (Grove City, Pa./Grove City), freshman Sarah Williamson (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) and freshman Kate Hussey (Port Murray, N.J./Warren Hills) captured the 400 relay in 52.60 seconds.
Hussey also won the 100 meters (13.16) while sophomore Emily Rabenold (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) took the 1500 (4:50.42). Senior Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) won the 5000 in 19:19.78.
Freshman Katelyn Hess (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) won the long jump with a best mark of 15 feet, 7 1/2 inches. Hess and junior Sadie Malone (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon) tied for the high jump victory by clearing five feet.
Freshman Rachel Watson (Jackson Center, Pa./Lakeview) won the triple jump with a best mark of 33-3 while freshman Melanie Packard (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) cleared 10 feet to win the pole vault.
Grove City will compete in the Slippery Rock Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
