Grove City wins Westminster Invitational

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team captured the team title at the 18-team Westminster Invitational Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.

The Wolverines accumulated 153.50 team points in rolling to the championship. Clarion took second with 123.50 points and Westminster took third with 120 points.

Grove City athletes earned six individual wins Saturday. Sophomore Emily Rabenold (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) won the 3000 steeplechase in a school-record time of 11 minutes, 3.50 seconds. She also won the 5000 in 18:15.81.

Sophomore Eliza Lowe (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) swept the hurdle events. She won the 100 hurdles in 15.46 seconds and won the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:04.51.

Senior Cayla Clawson (York, Pa./Central York) won the 1500 (5:03.72) while freshman Katelyn Hess (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) led Grove City's field performers by winning the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 6 inches.

Two Grove City performers posted runner-up finishes Saturday. Freshman Rachel Watson (Jackson Center, Pa./Lakeview) earned second in the triple jump (33-5 1/2) while sophomore Janice Novacek (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) placed second in the 1500 (5:07.90).

Additionally, Grove City's 400- and 1600-meter relay teams both set school records Saturday. Lowe, sophomore Allison Blain (Danbury, Conn./Danbury), freshman Sarah Williamson (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) and freshman Kate Hussey (Port Murray, N.J./Warren Hills) posted a time of 50.17 seconds. That time placed sixth.

Lowe, Blain, freshman Lauren Pearce (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) and sophomore Bethany Easom(Keller, Texas/Saline) took fourth in the 1600 relay with a Grove City-record time of 4:06.81.

Grove City will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad Tuesday in Beaver Falls, Pa.
