Seven earn wins at Grove City Invitational

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Seven Grove City College women's track and field performers earned wins Friday evening as the Wolverines closed the 2014 regular season by hosting the Parents' Weekend Invitational at Robert E. Thorn Field.

Sophomore Eliza Lowe (Grove City, Pa./Grove City and freshman Katelyn Hess (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) both earned two victories each. Lowe won the 100 high hurdles in 15.43 seconds and then took the 400 hurdles in a winning time of 1:04.23.

Hess leaped 16 feet, 10 inches to win the long jump. She then marked at 32-6 to take first place in the triple jump.

Sophomore Janice Novacek (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell) won the 800 meters in 2:30.08 while senior Cayla Clawson captured the 1500 in 4:53.86. Sophomore Stevie Huston (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) won the 5000 (19:35.65) and sophomore Emily Rabenold (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) prevailed in the 3000 steeplechase (11:04.10).

Junior Sadie Malone (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon) capped Grove City's sweep of the jumps by clearing 5 feet in the high jump, good for first place.

Several Grove City athletes have qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships, which will be held May 15-16 in Troy, N.Y.
