Grove City opens season at home

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's track and field team opened its 2016 outdoor season by hosting Geneva in an unscored meet at Robert E. Thorn Field.

Three Grove City athletes earned a pair of wins each Saturday. Junior Sarah Williamson (York, Pa./Northeastern) won the 100-meter dash in 13.75 seconds and then won the long jump with a best mark of 15 feet, 2 1/4 inches. Meanwhile, junior Lauren Pearce (Grand Rapids, Mich./Hudsonville) won both the 200 (27.59) and the 400 (1:01.58).

Sophomore thrower Margi Haiss (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) secured victories in the shot put (34-1 1/2) and discus (111-7) for Grove City.

Junior Rachel Watson (Jackson Center, Pa./Lakeview) won the triple jump with a best leap of 31-11 while senior Lydia Rittenhouse (Elizabethtown, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) won the 100 hurdles in 18.59 seconds.

Also for the Wolverines, freshman Elizabeth Donahoe (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) won the 800 in 2:29.77, freshman Emily Yuse (Northfield, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) captured the 1500 (5:28.95) and junior Lydia Keiper (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) won the 5000 (19:11.75).

Grove City returns to action April 2 by competing in the Slippery Rock University Invitational.
