Rabenold leads Wolverines in outdoor opener at Cal

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Led by a victory in school-record fashion by junior distance standout Emily Rabenold (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) in the 10,000-meter run, the Grove City College women's track and field team opened their outdoor season at the California University (Pa.) Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.

Rabenold completed the race in a school-record time of 36:14.13, besting former standout Erin Claxton's 2005 record by more than four seconds. Rabenold's time is also the top time in all of NCAA Division III so far this year and qualifies her for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Grove City's quartet of junior Adrienne Scrima (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley),junior Stevie Huston (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe), sophomore Liv Green (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) and junior Anna Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) combined to earn a second Wolverine victory on the day, taking the 4x800 relay in an ECAC-qualifying time of 10:06.26.

Freshman Mackenzie Klinvex (Wexford, Pa./Shady Side Academy) earned a runner-up finish in the 5000 (19:18.09) to lead all DIII runners in the event while sophomore Lydia Keiper (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) took third in the 10,000 (41:16.38) to continue a strong showing by Grove City's distance runners.

Junior Eliza Lowe (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) took fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:06.76 and also finished sixth in the 100 hurdles with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 15.49 seconds. In addition, she teamed with junior Allison Blain (Danbury, Conn./Danbury), Scrima and sophomore Lauren Pearce (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) for a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 relay (4:13.73) and partnered with Pearce, Blain and sophomore Sarah Williamson (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) for a sixth-place showing in the 4x100 relay (51.00).

Sophomore Rachel Watson (Jackson Center, Pa./Lakeview) led Grove City's jumpers with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (10.46m) while sophomore Katie Hess (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) tied for sixth in the high jump (1.50m) and was seventh in the triple jump (10.10m).

 Sophomore Melanie Packard (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) placed sixth in the pole vault (3.05m) while Huston added a sixth-place showing in the 1500 (5:01.50). Senior Ellie Stoffer (Canfield, Ohio/South Range) led the Wolverine throwers with an 11th-place finish in the javelin (30.67m).

Grove City returns to action on Saturday when they host Geneva and Chatham in a tri-meet at 10 a.m.
