Grove City captures first women's water polo win
LEWISBURG, PA, February 24, 2001--The Lady Wolverine water polo team, coming off an 0-21 inaugural season, posted the program's first victory Saturday, defeating Salem International, 12-11, at Bucknell University.
Junior Adrienne Hill (Portville, NY/Portville Central) buried four goals, including the game-winner with 49 seconds left, as Grove City rallied from a 9-8 deficit through three quarters to win its second game of the 2001 season. The victory was sandwiched between losses to host Bucknell, 14-4, and Slippery Rock, 19-1.
Hill finished with a team-high seven goals on the day, scoring twice in the opener against Bucknell and adding the squad's lone tally against Slippery Rock. Senior Brie Anne Thomas (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and junior Sarah Erdos (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) accounted for three goals apiece with each netting two in the victory over Salem Interntional and one against Bucknell. Senior Brianne Leas (Chesapeake Beach, MD/Northern), sophomore Abby Sakowski (Cleveland Heights, OH/Cleveland Heights), freshman Tammy Hamsher (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) and freshman Jessica Zedaker (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek) contributed a goal each in the historic win.
The Lady Wolverines, 1-2 overall, play at Gannon next
Friday at 7:30 p.m.
