Lady Wolverines drop four at Gannon
ERIE, PA, March 3, 2001--The Grove City College women's water polo team opened its Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division schedule with four losses at a round-robin tournament hosted by Gannon University March 2-3.
The Lady Wolverines suffered a loss to Division II Gannon (17-6) on Friday before dropping three games on Saturday to Division II Slippery Rock University (10-2) and Division I schools Michigan University (19-3) and Indiana University (12-1).
Junior Adrienne Hill (Portville, NY/Portville Central) netted three goals in the Gannon loss -- her second hat trick through the first four games -- and added four more goals over the weekend to give her a team-high 14 tallies on the season. Junior Sarah Erdos (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) recorded two goals, while senior Brianne Leas (Chesapeake Beach, MD/Northern), senior Brie Anne Thomas (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and freshman Tammy Hamsher (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) netted a goal each. Leas added five steals in the loss to Indiana and Erdos contributed four steals in the Michigan defeat.
Grove City, now 1-6 overall, is idle until
Wednesday, March 21, when it hosts California State University at Hayward in its
home opener at 8:30 p.m.
