GCC takes one out of four on Saturday

GROVE CITY, PA, March 31, 2001--The Lady Wolverine water polo team recorded its fourth victory of the season Saturday, defeating St. Francis College -- the fourth-ranked team in the New York Region, 8-6.  Losses to Iona College, 11-3, Salem International, 15-14, and Queens College, 16-2, moved the team's record to 4-14 following the two-day Grove City College Invitational.

Junior Adrienne Hill (Portville, NY/Portville Central) posted her seventh hat trick of the season in the two-goal victory, helping the Lady Wolverines rally from a 5-4 halftime deficit.  Hill added three more goals on the day, giving her a team-high 36 on the season.

Freshmen Tammy Hamsher (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) and Jessica Zedaker (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek) buried four and three goals, respectively, in the 15-14 loss to Salem International, which was decided by sudden death after two three-minute overtime periods.  Hamsher finished with seven goals on Saturday, while Zedaker totaled five goals.

Junior Sarah Erdos (Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) netted four goals on the day, sophomore Abigail Sakowski (Cleveland Hts., OH/Cleveland Hts.) and senior Brie Anne Thomas (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) each scored twice and freshman Katie Flaherty (Suffield, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) had one goal.

In the four matches, freshman goalie Julie Zedaker (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek) stopped 29 of the 51 shots she faced, including a penalty shot.  Junior Katherine Exo (Bloomfield, MI/Holland) made 14 saves on 25 shots.
