Lady Wolverine water polo season opens at Brown

PROVIDENCE, RI, March 3, 2002--Senior Adrienne Hill (Portville, NY/Portville) rifled in seven goals in four games at the season-opening Brown University Invitational, but the Grove City College women's water polo team came away winless, falling to Brown (13-4), Iona College (15-2), Harvard University (11-1) and Queens College (10-9) over the weekend.

Hill, who scored a season-high 45 goals last spring, scored twice against both Brown and Iona on Saturday and added a hat trick Sunday in the narrow loss to Queens.  Hill tied the game, 8-8, with a four-meter penalty shot with 2:27 left in regulation but Queens rallied with the next two goals before Lady Wolverine sophomore Jessica Zedaker (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek) scored with three seconds left to cut the final margin to one.

Jessica Zedaker finished the invitational with four goals, while her twin sister, goaltender Julie Zedaker, averaged 11 saves in the four-game span.   The twins set new single-game varsity records for steals in the opener against Brown as Jessica broke the mark for a field player with five and Julie's six was a new school record for a goalie.  In the same game, sophomore Tammy Hamsher (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) broke the school's single-game record for assists with two.  Hamsher recorded three steals in the loss to Harvard and netted two goals against Queens.

Sophomore Katie Flaherty (Suffield, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) accounted for the team's lone goal against Harvard, while senior Laura Petroski (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) and junior Lisa Gregor (Pittsburgh, PA/Trinity Christian) contributed goals against Queens.
