VILLANOVA, PA, April 20, 2002—The Grove City College women's water polo team (4-14) dropped its first two games at the 2002 Southern Championships, held at Villanova University's Swim Center.

Grove City opened the championship with a 16-4 loss to George Washington University.  Senior Adrienne Hill (Portville, NY/Portville Central) scored twice for the Lady Wolverines, while sophomores Tammy Hamsher (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) and Katie Flaherty (Suffield, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) tallied a goal each.  Sophomore goalkeeper Julie Zedaker (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek) recorded a team-high four steals and turned back nine of 25 shots.  Hamsher and sophomore Jessica Zedaker (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek) added two steals apiece.

In the second game, Bucknell University dealt Grove City a 15-2 defeat as Hamsher and Jessica Zedaker each posted a goal and two steals.  Hill played in goal for the Lady Wolverines and made five saves on 20 shots.

The Lady Wolverines open play on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. against Mercyhurst College.  They will advance to the seventh- or ninth-place games, which are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. and 4:40 p.m., respectively, on Sunday.  If Grove City claims seventh place, it will most likely earn its second straight trip to the Collegiate III National Championships.
