Lady Wolverines drop first two at nationals

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, May 3, 2002—The Grove City College women's water polo team opened the 2002 Collegiate III National Championships with a pair of losses to California schools on Friday, falling to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, 17-5, and Occidental College, 14-1.

Senior Adrienne Hill (Portville, NY/Portville Central) scored twice in the opener, while junior Sarah Grabowski (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry Academy), sophomore Katie Flaherty (Suffield, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) and sophomore Tammy Hamsher (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) added a goal each.  Sophomore goalkeeper Julie Zedaker (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek) recorded 21 saves on 38 shots.

Flaherty accounted for the team's only goal against Occidental, while Julie Zedaker was credited with 13 saves.

The Lady Wolverines will next play Carleton College (MN) Saturday morning at 10:15.

This year's championship is being held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, MN.
