Grove City polo wins pair at nationals

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, May 4, 2002—The sixth-seeded Lady Wolverine water polo team defeated seventh-seeded Carleton College (MN), 9-4, and eighth-seeded Macalester College (MN), 8-3, to advance to the fifth-place game against fifth-seeded Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the 2002 Collegiate III National Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Grove City and MIT are scheduled to meet Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Central Time. 

Sophomore Tammy Hamsher (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) highlighted Saturday's victories with nine goals, including five against tournament host Macalester.  Hamsher added four steals and two assists on the day.  Senior Adrienne Hill (Portville, NYPortville Central) scored four goals, sophomore Katie Flaherty (Suffield, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) netted three goals and sophomore Jessica Zedaker (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek) tallied one goal.

Flaherty, Jessica Zedaker, senior Laura Petroski (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) and junior Sarah Grabowski (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry Academy) chipped in with three steals apiece.

Sophomore goalkeeper Julie Zedaker (Houston, TX/Cypress Creek) recorded 15 saves in each win.
