Slippery Rock spoils GCC home opener

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team dropped to 0-5 with a 9-3 loss to visiting Slippery Rock University Tuesday evening at the Grove City College Pool.

Grove City trailed just 4-3 at halftime before The Rock broke the match open in the second half with two third-quarter goals and three more in the fourth period.

Junior Katie Flaherty (Suffield, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) scored twice for Grove City while junior Tammy Hamsher (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added a goal, also. Hamsher also had three steals and an assist while junior Jessica Zedaker (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) had two steals and two assists while senior Sarah Grabowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry Traditional Academy) also recorded two steals for the Lady Wolverines. 

In goal, junior Julie Zedaker (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) stopped 21 shots.

Grove City returns to action this weekend in Ann Arbor, Mich. at the University of Michigan Invitational.
