Grove City 1-for-4 at Wash. and Jeff. Invitational 

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo rallied past Mercyhurst Saturday and nearly knocked off host Washington and Jefferson at the Washington and Jefferson Invitational this weekend.

Grove City (5-15) opened play with a 10-8 win over Mercyhurst and before dropping a 7-6 decision to the hosts Saturday. Sunday, Grove City fell to Slippery Rock 10-4 and also dropped a 12-1 verdict to Division I Indiana University.

Against Mercyhurst, Grove City fell behind 6-3 early in the third period before charging back to take a 7-6 lead. Grove City then sealed the win with three consecutive goals down the stretch. Junior Jessica Zedaker (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) fired in five goals and added a pair of steals for the Lady Wolverines while senior Abby Sakowski (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) and junior Tammy Hamsher (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each scored twice. 

Junior Katie Flaherty (Suffield, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) scored one goal, assisted on three others and registered five steals. In goal, junior Julie Zedaker (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) stopped 18 shots. 

Grove City jumped out to a 4-1 lead on Washington and Jefferson Saturday afternoon before the host Presidents pulled out the 7-6 win. Hamsher and Jessica Zedaker both scored twice while Flaherty and Sakowski accounted for Grove City's two other goals. Jessica Zedaker also had a half-dozen steals while Julie Zedaker made 15 saves and recorded two thefts.

Freshman Lauren Schade (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) scored a pair of goals Sunday morning against Slippery Rock while Jessica Zedaker and Flaherty both scored once. Hamsher collected two assists and four steals while Julie Zedaker made a dozen saves. 

Hamsher tallied Grove City's lone goal -- via a Sakowski assist -- against Indiana Sunday afternoon. Jessica Zedaker tallied seven steals while Julie Zedaker had nine saves.
