Grove City splits two matches at own invitational 

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo picked up its sixth victory of the season Friday night with a 6-3 triumph over Penn State Behrend in action at the Grove City College Invitational.

Earlier in the night, the Lady Wolverines (6-16) dropped an 8-7, double-overtime decision to Salem International.

Against Behrend, junior Jessica Zedaker (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) fired in three goals, recorded nine steals and gave out an assist. Junior Tammy Hamsher (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) scored twice and added an assist and two steals. Freshman Lauren Schade (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) added a goal and a pair of assists for the Lady Wolverines, also.

In addition, junior Katie Flaherty (Suffield, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded four steals while senior Sarah Grabowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry Traditional Academy) had a pair of steals. In goal, junior Julie Zedaker (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) stopped 14 of 17 shots and also had an assist.

Grove City jumped out to a 5-1 lead against Salem International before the Tigers came back to force overtime. A Flaherty steal and goal late in the first overtime tied the match at 7-7, forcing the second, sudden death) overtime.

Hamsher scored twice against Salem International while Jessica Zedaker, Lisa Gregor (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian), Schade, Flaherty and senior Abby Sakowski (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) all had single goals. Flaherty and Hamsher both had two assists while Zedaker recorded seven steals. Hamsher tallied three steals while Flaherty and Sakowski each had two.

Julie Zedaker made 15 saves for the Lady Wolverines, who will face Connecticut College at 12:15 Saturday afternoon. Grove City will close Invitational play with a match against Queens College at 5:15 p.m.
