Grove City finishes 6th in the nation

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team (9-27) finished sixth nationally after dropping a 7-5 decision to Macalester in the fifth-place game of the 12th annual Collegiate III Women's Water Polo National Championships Sunday at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Junior Jessica Zedaker (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) fired in a pair of goals and added three steals while juniors Katie Flaherty (Suffield, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Tammy Hamsher (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) both added goals, as did freshman Lauren Schade (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny). Flaherty also registered five steals while Hamsher had three thefts.

Senior Lisa Gregor (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) and frosh Cecilia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) both had assists while senior Abby Sakowski (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) and junior Julie Zedaker (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) each had a pair of steals.

Julie Zedaker stopped seven shots.

Grove City also finished sixth nationally last season. Grove City's nine wins this year are the most in the four-year history of the program.
