Wolverines open 2005 season

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team opened the 2005 season Friday night with a 14-8 setback against Division II Gannon at Slippery Rock University.

Sophomore Virginia Larsen (Seattle, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) fired in three goals for Grove City (0-1) while sophomore Caitlin Ewing (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) scored twice. Junior Lauren Schade (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny), junior Cecelia Larsen (Seattle, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) and freshman Jennifer Johnston (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon) each scored once.

Schade had three assists while Ewing, Cecelia Larsen and freshman Keala Walter (Newburg, Ore./Newburg) all had one assist. Schade and Walter each added three steals while Virginia Larsen recorded two thefts. In goal, Walter stopped 16 shots.

Grove City will play Mercyhurst at 11 a.m. at Slippery Rock. The Wolverines will also play Slippery Rock at 2 p.m. and the Washington Athletic Club at 6:30 p.m.
