Wolverines win two at Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team improved to 4-8 Saturday with a pair of victories at the Carthage Invitational. The Wolverines earned a 7-4 win over Washington (Mo.) Saturday afternoon, then rallied for a 6-5 win over Macalester Saturday night.

Grove City trailed Macalester 5-2 with 6:30 remaining in the match before the Wolverines charged back. Sophomore Caitlin Ewing (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) cut the lead to 5-3 midway through the fourth period with her third goal of the match while senior Lauren Schade (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) tallied Grove City's fourth goal moments later.

Ewing's fourth goal of the night tied the match with 3:02 left. The Wolverines then took their only lead of the match in the closing seconds. Following a timeout with 33 seconds left, Ewing scored her fifth goal of the match after an assist from junior Cecelia Larsen (Seattle, Wash./Tacoma Baptist).

Larsen and Schade each had two assists against Macalester while junior Ellen Magee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled) and freshman goalkeeper Keala Walter (Newburg, Ore./Newburg) each had one assist.

Schade also recorded four steals while Ewing added three thefts. In goal, Walter stopped 13 shots.

Ewing scored three goals Saturday afternoon against Washington University while Virginia Larsen (Seattle, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) scored twice. Schade and freshman Jennifer Johnston (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon) each added a goal in the victory.

Walter assisted on four goals while Schade had two assists. Walter also stopped 17 of 21 shots.

Grove City will visit Washington and Jefferson Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
