Grove City opens Western Division play

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team opened the 2006 season Saturday with a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division matches at Washington and Jefferson College's Henry Memorial Center.

Grove City opened Saturday's action with a 10-3 loss to Indiana. Grove City then dropped a 15-3 verdict against Michigan.

Junior Virginia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) fired in a pair of goals for the Wolverines against Indiana while junior Caitlin Ewing (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) added a goal. Freshman Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) had a pair of assists for Grove City (0-2) while senior Emily Billmyre (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) had one assist.

In goal, sophomore Keala Walter (Newberg, Ore./Newberg) stopped nine shots while freshman C.J. Foldberg (Atascadero, Calif./Atascadero) had five saves.

Freshman Kristen Kerchner (West Lake Village, Calif./West Lake) fired in a pair of goals against Michigan while Ewing added one goal. Senior Cecelia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist), Ewing and McRuer all had one assist while senior Lauren Schade (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) recorded five steals.

Foldberg had 11 saves while Walter tallied three saves.

Grove City will visit Slippery Rock Wednesday night.
