Wolverines fall to SRU, Mercyhurst

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team dropped a pair of matches against Division II foes this weekend at Slippery Rock University's Morrow Field House. Friday night, Grove City dropped a 9-3 decision to host Slippery Rock. Saturday, Mercyhurst nipped the Wolverines (0-4), 5-4, at SRU.

Freshman Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) fired in a pair of goals against Slippery Rock while junior Caitlin Ewing (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) scored once. Freshman Kristen Kerchner (West Lake Village, Calif./West Lake) and senior Cecelia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) both had assists.

Defensively, senior Lauren Schade (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) recorded four steals while McRuer had three thefts. In goal, sophomore Keala Walter (Newberg, Ore./Newberg) stopped seven shots while freshman C.J. Foldberg (Atascadero, Calif./Atascadero) had three saves.

Against Mercyhurst Saturday, Ewing scored twice while Larsen and Kerchner each scored ones. Ewing, Foldberg, Cecelia Larsen and junior Virginia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) all had assists. McCruer and Cecelia Larsen both had four steals while Schade tallied three steals.

Foldberg stopped seven shots while Walter had five saves in goal.

Grove City will compete in the Wolverine Invitational at the University of Michigan next weekend.
