Grove City competes at CWPA Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Grove City College women's water polo fell to 9-14 overall Saturday as the Wolverines dropped a pair of matches at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division Championships, hosted by Indiana University.

The sixth-seeded Wolverines opened play with a 7-1 loss to No. 3 Mercyhurst. Grove City then dropped a 6-2 decision to Washington and Jefferson Saturday evening.

Freshman Kristen Kerchner (West Lake Village, Calif./West Lake) scored Grove City's lone goal against Mercyhurst. Freshman Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) supplied the assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Keala Walter (Newberg, Ore./Newberg) recorded nine saves while senior Lauren Schade (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) tallied three steals.

Against Washington and Jefferson, junior Caitlin Ewing (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) and senior Cecelia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) each scored once, Sophomore Caroline Walker (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) recorded one assist. Walter stopped 12 of 18 shots and also had two steals. Larsen and McRuer both had a pair of thefts, also.

Grove City will wrap up play at the Western Division Championships Sunday afternoon against Gannon at 1:30 p.m.
