Wolverines take 8th at Collegiate III Championships

REDLANDS, Calif. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team wrapped up the 2006 season late Saturday night at the Collegiate III National Championships with an 8-7 overtime loss to Wheaton (Ill.) in the seventh-place match of the tournament. Grove City (9-20) finishes eighth nationally as a result.

Junior Caitlin Ewing (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) fired in four straight goals for the Wolverines while junior Virginia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist), senior Lauren Schade (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) and freshman C.J. Foldberg (Atascadero, Calif./Atascadero) all scored once.

Senior Cecelia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) distributed three assists while freshmen Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) and Kristen Kerchner (West Lake Village, Calif./West Lake) both had one assist. Kerchner also had three steals while Schade and Foldberg each had two steals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Keala Walter (Newberg, Ore./Newberg) recorded 16 saves for Grove City. Walter earned Second Team All-Tournament honors at goalkeeper following the conclusion of the tournament.
