Grove City falls to Division I Wagner

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team wrapped up play in the two-day Bucknell Invitational Sunday with a 9-4 loss to NCAA Division I member Wagner.

Grove City (0-4) trailed just 4-3 late in the third quarter before Wagner pulled away during the fourth period. Sophomore Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) fired in a pair of goals for Grove City while senior Caitlin Ewing (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) and freshman Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) each scored once.

Ewing, McRuer, Thompson and freshman Liz Juncker (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) all had assists.

Defensively junior goalkeeper Keala Walter (Kenaau, Hawaii/Newberg, Ore.) recorded four steals. She also stopped nine of 18 shots. McRuer and sophomore Kristen Kerchner (West Lake Village, Calif./West Lake) each had three steals.

Wagner is picked second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's preseason poll. Saturday, Grove City played MAAC members Iona, Marist and Villanova. Marist is the preseason MAAC favorite.

Grove City will visit California Thursday-Saturday for a six-game road trip. Grove City will face California State-Maritime and California State-East Bay Thursday at East Bay.
