Wolverines fall twice in California

HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team dropped a pair of matches Friday afternoon against scholarship-level program. Grove City opened the day with a 16-5 loss to NCAA Division II California State-San Bernardino. The Wolverines then dropped a 20-3 decision to Division I California State-Bakersfield, the 18th-ranked team in the nation.

Freshman Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) fired in a pair of goals for Grove City (1-7) against CSU-San Bernardino while sophomore Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University), freshman Liz Juncker (Ann Arbor, Mich/Huron) and senior Caitlin Ewing (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) all scored once.

In goal, junior Keala Walter (Keaau, Hawaii) stopped 15 shots.

Ewing scored twice in the nightcap against CSU-Bakersfield while Thompson added a goal. Junior Caroline Walker (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) and senior Virginia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) each had assists. Freshman goalkeeper Kate Stiebler (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) stopped seven shots.

Saturday, Grove City will participate in UC-Santa Cruz's "Slugfest." Grove City will face the hosts at 11:35 a.m. Eastern. The Wolverines will also play California State-Monterey Bay at 8:30 p.m. EST.
