Wolverines crown Queens, 11-6

ERIE, Pa. -- Senior Caitlin Ewing (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) and freshman Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) both fired in three goals Friday night as the Grove City College women's water polo team rolled to an 11-6 win over Queens in the first night of action at the Penn State Behrend Invitational.

Grove City (3-9) stormed out to a 7-1 lead and did not look back. Sophomore Kristen Kerchner (West Lake Village, Calif./West Lake) fired in a pair of goals for the Wolverines while sophomore Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) and freshman Liz Juncker (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) also scored.

Kerchner also doled out a pair of assists while Juncker, Thompson and junior Caroline Walker (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) all had one assist.

Defensively, McRuer recorded five steals. Juncker tallied three takeaways. In goal, junior Keala Walter (Keaau, Hawaii) posted 10 saves.

Grove City will compete in the second day of the Behrend Invitational Saturday. The Wolverines will face Utica at 11:20 a.m., followed by matches against Carthage (4:00 p.m.) and Siena (7:30 p.m.).
