Grove City falls to Mercyhurst, 8-4

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team fell to 5-12 overall Saturday afternoon with an 8-4 loss to Mercyhurst at the University of Michigan Wolverine Invitational.

Sophomore Kristen Kerchner (West Lake Village, Calif./West Lake), sophomore Whitney Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), freshman Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and freshman Liz Juncker (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) all scored once for Grove City. Juncker, Kerchner and senior Virginia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) each had one assist.

Defensively, senior Caitlin Ewing (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) tallied four steals while junior goalkeeper Keala Walter (Keaau, Hawaii/Newberg, Ore.) stopped 12 shots.

The Wolverines also dropped a 6-4 decision to Michigan State in an exhibition match Saturday morning. Michigan State's team does not have varsity status.

Grove City will visit Washington & Jefferson Thursday night in Collegiate Water Polo Association action at 8 p.m.
