Wolverines roll past Mercyhurst, 7-4

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Five different Grove City players scored goals Friday night as the Grove City College women's water polo team rolled past CWPA Western Division rival Mercyhurst, 7-4, in a division match in the Grove City College Pool. Grove City is now 13-15 overall and 3-3 in the Western Division.

Freshman Jane Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas School) and sophomore Kristen Kerchner (West Lake Village, Calif./West Lake) both scored twice for the Wolverines. Senior Caitlin Ewing (Grafton, Wis./Grafton), freshman Kate Stiebler (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and freshman Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) all scored once.

Kerchner also assisted on two goals while Thompson and senior Virginia Larsen (Federal Way, Wash./Tacoma Baptist) each posted one assist. Stiebler helped pace the Grove City defense with a career-high seven steals while sophomore Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) added four thefts.

In goal, sophomore Keala Walter (Keaau, Hawaii/Newberg, Ore.) stopped 13 of 17 shots faced.

Grove City fell behind early, 1-0, but rebounded to take a 4-2 lead by halftime. Grove City extended the lead to 6-2 by the end of the third period.

Grove City will wrap up the regular season Saturday night at 8 p.m. against Gannon in CWPA Western Division action.
