Wolverines earn share of 5th place

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team wrapped up the 2007 season Sunday afternoon with an 8-5 loss to host California-Santa Cruz in the final round of the Collegiate III National Championships. Grove City (18-19) finishes the season-ending tournament in a tie for fifth place. It is Grove City's best-ever finish at the Collegiate III Championships.

Freshman Kate Stiebler (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) fired in four goals for Grove City while classmate Jane Wilson (Newberg, Ore./Veritas School) scored once. Wilson also assisted on a goal.

Stiebler led Grove City on defense with five steals while senior Caitlin Ewing (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) added three steals. Junior goalkeeper Keala Walter (Keaau, Hawaii/Newberg, Ore.) stopped 11 of 19 shots.

Ewing and Wilson finished the season with 53 goals each, which is a new Grove City single-season record. Grove City's 18 wins this year are also a new single-season program record. The 2004 team won 17 matches.
