Grove City earns first win

ORANGE, Calif. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team picked up its first victory of the season Sunday by earning a 9-5 win over NAIA Fresno Pacific at Chapman University. Grove City is now 1-2 on the season.

Six different Grove City players scored in the win. Sophomore Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) fired in her first hat trick of the season while sophomore Kate Stiebler (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) scored twice.

Junior Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University), junior Monica Gigliotti (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley), sophomore Liz Juncker (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) and freshman Brittany LaPalme (Hollywood, Fla./St. Thomas Aquians) all scored once. Thompson, McRuer and junior Whitney Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) all recorded assists.

McRuer led Grove City's defensive effort with four steals while senior goalkeeper Keala Walter (Keaau, Hawaii/Newberg, Ore.) stopped four shots.

Grove City will compete in the ECAC Invitational Tournament at Bucknell University next Friday and Saturday.
