Grove City falls to Michigan

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team opened Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division play Saturday night with a 24-3 setback against Michigan at the Grove City College Pool. Michigan, the nation's No. 12 team in Division I, jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first period en route to the win.

Junior Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) fired in a pair of goals for Grove City (2-5, 0-1) while sophomore Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) added a goal. Sophomore Kate Stiebler (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and freshman Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) each recorded assists.

Baur and Stiebler also had three steals while senior goalkeeper Keala Walter (Keaau, Hawaii/Newberg, Ore.) stopped seven shots.

Grove City will return to action March 28-29 in the Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational.
