Grove City tops Gannon, 9-6

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team improved to 3-3 in the CWPA Western Division Tuesday night with a 9-6 home victory over Gannon in the Grove City College Pool. Grove City (7-9 overall) broke a 3-3 halftime tie by scoring four third-quarter goals.

Junior Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) fired in four goals in the win, including two in the pivotal third period. Sophomore Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) also scored twice in the third period as part of a three-goal night. Sophomore Kate Stiebler (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and freshman Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) each scored once for the Wolverines.

Baur assisted on two goals while McRuer and freshman Brittany LaPalme (Hollywood, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) each recorded one assist.

McRuer led Grove City with five steals. Sophomore Liz Juncker (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) picked up four steals while Baur had three takeaways. As a team, Grove City tallied 19 steals.

Senior goalkeeper Keala Walter (Keaau, Hawaii/Newberg, Ore.) stopped 13 of 19 shots to earn the win in goal.

Grove City will conclude Western Division play Saturday at Washington & Jefferson. Saturday's match will begin at 11 a.m.
