Wolverines wrap up Western Division play with win

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's water polo team broke a 2-2 halftime tie by firing in six third-period goals en route to a 10-8 victory over host Washington & Jefferson Saturday in a CWPA Western Division match at the Henry Memorial Center natatorium. Grove City improved to 4-3 in the Western Division and 8-9 overall.

Sophomore Amanda Thompson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) fired in four goals for Grove City while sophomore Kate Stiebler (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) scored twice and also assisted on four other Wolverine goals.

Junior Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) also scored twice and added an assist. Freshman Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) recorded a goal and an assist while sophomore Liz Juncker (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) also scored. Thompson also assisted on a goal in Saturday's win.

In goal, senior goalkeeper Keala Walter (Keaau, Hawaii/Newberg, Ore.) stopped 10 of the 18 shots faced. Baur led Grove City with three steals.

The victory clinched the No. 4 seed in next weekend's CWPA Western Division Championships. Grove City is the host for this year's Championships. The Wolverines will play either Gannon or W&J at 6:30 p.m. Friday night.
