Wolverines top Chatham in CWPA finale

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College women's water polo team wrapped up Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division play Tuesday night with a 13-3 victory over host Chatham. Grove City is now 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the Western Division.

Freshman Chelsea Johnson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) fired in five goals for Grove City while senior Liza McRuer (Irvine, Calif./University) added four goals.

Senior Whitney Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn), freshman Larissa Cassano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), junior Beth Poston (Onsted, Mich./Lenawee Christian) and junior Kate Stiebler (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) all scored one goal each.

McRuer assisted three goals while Poston and sophomore Lauren Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) both had one assist.

McRuer also paced the Grove City defense with a season-high nine steals. Stiebler added seven steals while Lauren Baur collected three takeaways. In goal, freshman Amy Fleming (Annandale, Va./Annandale) stopped 11 shots.

Grove City led 10-0 at halftime.

The Wolverines return to action this Friday and Saturday at the Carthage (Wis.) Midwest Invitational.
